Hi, I’m Dr. Jasmine Ross,
I’m a licensed psychologist and passionate advocate for the mental health of marginalized communities. My journey began in the South Bronx, where I first developed my commitment to equity, healing, and empowerment. This foundation has guided me through a career dedicated to exploring the intersection of psychology, storytelling, and social justice.
expertise and focus

As a clinician and researcher, I specialize in addressing the unique challenges faced by marginalized groups, particularly women. My research has explored how race, gender, sexuality, health, and socioeconomic status intersect to influence women’s mental health. Topics I have published and presented on include:
The mental health needs of women with serious mental illnesses.
Sexual scripts within Hip-Hop culture.
Multicultural theory and racial identity development.
In my clinical practice, I focus on women's mental health, sexuality, trauma, grief, and reproductive challenges. I offer specialized support for Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, early infant loss, and the psychological aspects of infertility and miscarriage. This work stems from a heartfelt commitment to fostering resilience and healing in the face of life’s profound challenges.

My passion for storytelling—both personal narratives and those depicted on screen—has grown alongside my clinical work. I am dedicated to helping writers, filmmakers, and creatives craft accurate, nuanced, and impactful stories about marginalized groups. By bridging my expertise in psychology with my love for the arts, I support creatives in telling stories that are both authentic and transformative.

I am the creator and driving force behind the upcoming documentary, The Day Black Women Decided to Take a 4-Year Vacation. This project embodies my commitment to using storytelling to amplify the voices of Black women, celebrate their resilience, and advocate for their mental health and well-being. The documentary integrates my passion for the arts with my expertise in psychology, offering a poignant exploration of rest, joy, and self-preservation for Black women.
Beyond this project, I have served as a speaker and consultant at prominent events, including:
Moderating short film Q&A sessions at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival.
Speaking at the NOAH Conference on Managing Perfectionism and Performance Anxiety Through the Art of Storytelling: What Artists and Athletes Have in Common.
Guest appearances on the Black. Girl. Iowa! Podcast (Crafting Your Narrative with Dr. Jasmine Ross) and the People of Color in Psychology Podcast (Mental Health and the Portrayal of Black Women in the Entertainment Industry).
Additionally, I am an upcoming featured guest on Season Three of the Leadership Wellness Circle Podcast with Maven Miara, a guest blog writer for Postpartum Support International (PSI) on Healing Through Storytelling: Redefining Motherhood Narratives with Authenticity and Compassion, and presenting at the Intimacy Directors and Coordinators Intimacy Professional Summit on Psychology Meets Intimacy Coordination: Crafting Safe, Realistic, and Emotionally Complex Scenes..

Through Dr. Jasmine Ross Storytelling Consulting, I provide tailored support for writers, filmmakers, and creatives seeking to tell stories with accuracy, depth, and compassion. Whether it’s consulting on character development, refining narratives, or offering psychological insight into marginalized experiences, my goal is to help storytellers craft work that educates, inspires, and transforms societal perceptions.
I believe storytelling is a powerful tool for healing and change. Together, we can amplify voices that need to be heard and create narratives that truly matter.
